Tentative Program Itinerary

Day 1: Monday – May 23, 2016
Morning: Airport pick-up
Students who arrive during the arranged time period will be met at the airport by a CISAbroad staff member who will guide students to their housing.

3:30 PM: Logistics and Health & Safety Orientation.
Students will be given important health and safety instructions, an introduction to cultural differences, and will learn how to find their way around the city, including taking the public transportation. 

5:30 PM: Walk in the city center

6:30PM: Tapas Welcome Dinner

Transportation: Airport to accommodations (one group transfer via private coach)

Day 2: Tuesday – May 24, 2016
11:00 AM: City Bus Tour
This Bus Tour will help the students to get to know in an easy and fast way what Barcelona has to offer. It is a Jump-on/jump-off bus.

Afternoon: Free afternoon for exploration and bus tour continued

Day 3: Wednesday – May 25, 2016

3:30 PM: Gothic Quarter Tour
Students will experience the Barcelona city center and its modern-day magic while seeing the 2000 years of history that started with the Romans and made Barcelona what it is today

Day 4: Thursday – May 26, 2016
9:15 AM: Day trip and Business Visit: Cavas Codorniu
Codorniu is a veritable institution in Spain. Winemakers since the 16th century, the group produces several distinguished vintages and are Spain’s largest producer of sparkling wines. You’ll have a guided tour explaining the production of cava (Spanish champagne) and a tasting. You can also see how the company linked their product to the modernist movement as architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch built their headquarters and through the elaborate modernist marketing materials they used at beginning 20th century.
Afternoon: Sitges
After the tour we’ll go to the nearby beach town of Sitges where students will have a few hours of free time to explore the town, have lunch and go to the beach.

6:00 PM: Spanish and Catalan cooking class

Day 9: Tuesday – May 31, 2016
9:30-11:30 AM: Class Time: Professor Michalski
11:30 AM-1:30 PM: Business visit with an American expat to talk about cultural differences in the work place and the business world

Day 10: Wednesday – June 1, 2016

3:00 PM: Business Visit: Estrella Damn
Visit Estrella Damm’s massive factory, with a talk on how the company produces for the Spanish market and internationally, including an introduction to their marketing plan, environmental initiatives and international partnerships. The visit begins with a 30 minute talk followed by a 1.5h tour of the factory

9:00 PM: Day trip to the Dali Museum and Besalu, a town designated as an historical national property of Spain

Day 17: Wednesday – June 8, 2016

6:00 PM: Visit to the Raval neighborhood
Discover Raval, a neighborhood that up until 10 years ago was off-limits for tourists because of its bad reputation. The district is now beginning to thrive, thanks to the city’s investments and gentrification attempts

The focus of the workshop is to help students think about the experience they had in Barcelona and what they will be taking away from the experience.  We will talk about how to integrate this international experience into their resume and in job interviews.
