Summer and Semester in Ecuador Housing
Here are some general rules, tips, and expectations to help you become accustomed to your new home!
All students attending USFQ and some students attending UIDE will reside in homestays during their studies in Ecuador. You’ll live near other students in Quito proper, which is about 40 minutes by bus from your University (USFQ or UIDE). In almost all cases you will be the only student at the homestay, so you will have a private bedroom, but might share a bathroom. Housing information is shared with students about 1-2 weeks before you arrive.
Included with the homestay family are 2 meals a day, bed linens, laundry, and WiFi. Every homestay family is different and we have found that with an open mind and mutual respectful behavior, students are almost always happy with their homestay family. If not, please talk with the Site Director and we can assist.
Helpful tips for living with other people:
- Respect your hosts and the other people who live in the building.
- Remember that you are not on a college campus and not in your own home. Respect the property and get out of the “college campus” mentality.
- Talk to your roommates if they do something that bothers you. Talking it through is the easiest way to solve a small problem before it gets bigger.
- Talk to the staff if a problem arises and you cannot work it out with your roommates.
