Transportation in Jamaica

Transportation in Jamaica…. some 101 tips!

  • Pedestrians should remember that, unlike the United States, driving in Jamaica is on the left-hand side of the road. The lack of pedestrian crosswalks requires special vigilance for all pedestrians.
  • Travelers who use taxicabs should take only licensed taxicabs having red-and-white PP license plates or taxis recommended by their hotels and should not accept rides from strangers.
  • Do not use public buses, which are often overcrowded and are a frequent venue for crime!
  • Do not travel at night/after dark

**Pick-pockets: Pick-pocketing is a major occurrence, especially in larger. Make sure that your bag is zipped up and carried in front of you and that your wallet is tucked away safely. It is also a good idea to keep copies of your passport and essential documents in your dorm or hotel room, just in case. Keep an eye out for yourself and your friends on and don’t be afraid to make a lot of noise if you see something out of place.
