CISabroad will help you participate in many cultural events, called our La Vida Local series. Sometimes these are events that we cover the cost of, some are free, and others are social gatherings in which students pay a small fee if they want to participate. Examples of La Vida Local events are: trips to museums or local markets, concerts, planting trees, an East Coast beach day tour, hiking, getting coffee, Crystal Pool, farewell dinner with a cooking class in Cape Malay cuisine with a local woman, and much more. La Vida Local events are a great way to see more of local South African life and bond with your fellow CISabroad students, so don’t miss out! Most of these events are found and organized by your Site Director so look out for emails and Facebook posts once you are onsite.
In addition, ISOS, international student organization Stellenbosch, is a society which arranges for excursions and social events for international students for the semester. There is a small membership fee, ZAR100, but large excursions such as Table Mt, Cape Point, Lions head and Robben Island are covered by CISabroad. The excursions are varied and wide-reaching. These may include day and overnight excursions. We want you to experience some of the breathtaking scenery and diverse culture that South Africa has. While ISOS and CISabroad can’t confirm our excursions 100% until around the time the program starts, below is a list of past excursions that we have gone on and are very likely to be ones you do as well.
