Semester in Lima Excursions

On the Semester in Lima program you will have the opportunity to go on multiple excursions and cultural activities. Most of the excursions are day trips that you decide on with the Site Director once you arrive. There are many options based on your interests and we are always excited to do something new!

There are also some set excursions and cultural events. We will take you on a tour of different parts of Lima. It is such a big city and there are many different locations, so it is good to get acquainted with the different areas. We will also take you to different museums and important locations throughout the city.

At the beginning there is also an overnight trip to Huacachina. This is the land of wild rides across sand dunes and sandboarding down them! The oasis town of Huacachina is located a few hour south of Lima and is a great bonding experience during the first week of the program.

An optional excursion is to visit the world famous ruins of Machu Picchu. You will fly to Cusco over a long weekend and spend a couple of days in Cusco along with the overnight trip to view Machu Picchu. Remember, this is optional, you’ll need to inform your Program Coordinator if you want to take this trip.

Peru has travel options for everyone, including the beach, mountains, big cities, small towns, some of the deepest, most remote jungle in the world, and the infamous Lake Titicaca. While you might not get to see it all, we definitely recommend making the most of your time in Peru and visiting other areas. It’s usually easiest to book your independent trips once you arrive in Lima, but you can start thinking about the places you’d like to go before you get onsite!
