Excursions
There are many amazing excursions built into this program! You will have the opportunity to explore the city of Tokyo and its many quirky neighborhoods, from the hustle and bustle of Shibuya to the center of Japanese youth culture and fashion in Harajuku. Truly, this program has something fun to offer for everyone!
The program excursions are designed to introduce you to Japanese history and culture, and to allow you to experience for yourself some of the amazing things that can only be seen and done in Japan!
Some of your excursions will include:
KIMONO WEARING
One of the most popular activities during the January in Japan program, students will have the opportunity to don a Japanese kimono! This will be the perfect chance to check one thing off of your ‘Must Do in Japan’ bucket list.
ASAKUSA
Together with local University students, this excursion will take you on a short subway ride to Asakusa, an area in Tokyo not far from the Tokyo Sky Tree where you will have free time for shopping, visit the famous Sensoji temple as well as the well known Kaminarimon (Kaminari Gate) structure pictured above.
HARAJUKU, MEIJI SHRINE, & SHIBUYA
On the first Friday of your program, Seisen University students and you will spend the afternoon and evening together in one of the most fun and well-known areas of Tokyo and Japan! See Meiji Shrine, the largest and most famous shrine in Tokyo. After that, enjoy hanging out in nearby Harajuku, one of the most famous fashion districts in the world. Get the night started in nearby Shibuya where you will enjoy a welcome Izakaya party where you can enjoy many kinds of Japanese food.
JAPANESE TEA CEREMONY
Experience and learn about the tradition of the tea ceremony with fellow University students where you can perform some of the traditions, enjoy the pure form of Japanese tea and sweets in the traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony room on campus.
