Intern in Rome Excursions

Your internship in Rome will provide you with professional experience and an inside look at an active and local Roman organization. While this exists at the core of your program, it is important to enjoy and take in the beauty of your host city, Rome. The Eternal City will be your home for the duration of your program, so you better start thinking about how you want to spend your free time!

Cultural Curriculum

While in Rome, It is your job to see, understand, listen, taste, and of course, have a great time. Use all of your senses! CISabroad takes pride in facilitating cultural activities, and your Site Director, Romina, is an amazing ambassador for Rome.

The CISabroad onsite cultural curriculum is broken down into two types of activities. Please read the following to get an idea of what to expect throughout your program:

La Vida Local!
  • Your site Director Romina has developed a series of events you will have the opportunity to participate in this summer. Each activity is intended to connect you with your new home city. You might be on a guided night tour, visit a market unknown to tourists, have a movie night, or just drink some wine after a work-week with your cohort at the local Piazza.  While these rotating activities are included in your program, please note there may be an additional admission fee for an event or personal funds required to purchase souvenirs/food/drink. A calendar of events will be provided to you upon orientation onsite at the start of your program.
  • The Rome Bucket list: Can’t think of something to do on Sunday? Think you’ve seen all of the major sites and it’s been two weeks since arriving in Rome? Your Site Director has put together a huge list of quests to embark on. Take a full day exploring with a friend, or just take a detour after work one day! How many local sites can you see?

Sample Bucket-List Items:

37. Enjoy a concert at Alexanderplatz, one of Rome’s most famous places to go to, to listen to some exceptional live music. The club is located underground in a basement-like locale and is the most popular place to go to for jazz and blues music lives.

56. Be brave enough and visit the Capuchin Crypt inside the Church of Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini, in Via Veneto.

Day Trips (2 included)
  • Included in Your Intern in Rome program will be the opportunity to explore beyond Rome for a day…or two. Your Site Director will guide you to and through another town or city on these full-day excursions. Traveling the region will help you appreciate famed Italian landscape and architecture, escape the busy city streets, and relax with your fellow interns.
  • You may end up going to the famous Castel Gondolfo or spending a day in the ancient city of Perugia, now known as a capital for Arts and Culture throughout Italy.

  • Please stand by for confirmation from Romina about the specific location of your day-trips. RSVP will be required to participate!
  • Please wait until your onsite orientation to make additional personal travel plans. While two day trips are included in your program, we can not schedule them around every participants individual travel plans.

Example of a day trip: Castel Gondolfo:

Southeast of Rome in the Lazio region of Italy lies the Apostolic Palace of Castel Gandolfo which serves as a summer residence and vacation retreat for the pope, the leader of the Catholic Church. Castel Gandolfo is a on the mountainside of a dormant volcanic crater. Over time, rainwater has filled the crater creating a large body of fresh water on the surface.
