Barcelona, Spain

Barcelona is the capital city of Spain’s autonomous region of Catalunya. If you’ve never heard of Catalunya before, you might be surprised to find that the people of the region, called Catalans, view themselves as being culturally distinct from the rest of Spain; they have their own traditions, their own holidays, and they have their own language which is spoken widely throughout Barcelona and the rest of the region. Many Catalans even favor the idea of creating a fully autonomous nation-state for their region, completely separate from Spain.

Barcelona is one of the largest cities in Spain and a mecca for tourism, business start-ups, art, and culture. Situated on the Mediterranean Sea and not far from Pyrenees Mountains, Barcelona is known for its vibrant aesthetic. Some of the world’s most famous artists have made their mark on Barcelona! If you don’t know Gaudí, Miró, Dalí or Picasso before studying in Barcelona, you won’t be able to forget them once you’ve arrived!
