Arrival and Departure Information

Arrival information

καλώς ορίσατε!…. which means “Welcome” in Greek!

When you land at the airport in Athens, your Onsite Program Coordinator will be there to greet you! Look for a CISabroad sign with your university name on it. Participants arriving on or before the group flight will transfer to the accommodations on a one-way private group transfer.

Departure Information

Your On-Site Program Coordinator will give you a specific time to be ready for to depart for the airport when you are in Greece.

In case you need to make your own way to the accommodations, don’t panic! Here are a few ways you can get to Athens city-center:

Taxi:

Taxis line up outside the arrival terminal near doors 3-4. Make sure to have the address of your hotel! While taxis run the meter (ask them to reset it when getting in), the charge can still vary.  Expect a basic rate to the City Center to be about 35 Euros in the daytime, and 50 Euros at night time. The journey should take roughly 40-45 minutes. By law, taxi drivers in Greece are required to provide a receipt upon request.

Metro:

The Metro in Athens is quite easy to use, clean, and stops are well marked an announced ahead of time. and the charge is consistent. The station is connected to the airport, but does require going up a level from arrivals (by the elevator) and crossing over a pedestrian bridge.  Tickets can be purchased from a kiosk or a person at the desk in the station. One way is 8 Euros per person.

The closest metro stop to the hotel is: SYNGROU-FIX. From the airport, you will have to take the Metro 3 line towards city-center, and then transfer to the Metro 2 line. For an Athens Metro line map, click here! The journey will take about 45 minutes.

Bus:

There are several Athens blue bus lines to and from the airport. All buses depart from a designated area on the inner curbside of the arrivals level of the Main Terminal Building, right outside the Exit (doors 4-5).

The “X95 Syntagma Square- Airport Express” will take you closest to the hotel. Get off at the last stop in the center of Athens (Syntagma Square across the park from the Grande Bretagne). The bus times very in frequency from every 10-30 minutes, and run 24 hours a day. We recommend taking a taxi or walking the rest of the way to the hotel if you are comfortable with this and have a map.
