Interning Abroad for Credit

Many interns are able to get credit through their home university. If this is the case for you, please tell your Program Coordinator any and all requirements you have for the internship. We are able to help set up most any requirement, but we must know about these needs ahead of time so we can prep both our onsite staff and your host company.

If intern for credit documents and requirements are not sent to the Program Coordinator before you are accepted, we cannot guarantee that your requirements will be met.

Not sure what kind of requirements we can help set up for you? They are:

  • Mid-term and/or end of program evaluation by supervisor
  • A specific number of hours
  • A specific time off during the week (for example you need Wednesday afternoons off to participate in an online class)
  • The contact information of the supervisor before the program starts
  • Detailed job descriptions prior to arrival
  • A Time Card or similar document that verifies the number of hours worked

There are a handful of requirements that are more than likely not possible. Please ask your Program Coordinator if you have any of these requirements:

  • Weekly conversations between your supervisor and someone from your home university
  • A completely flexible work schedule that allows you to take multiple classes online
  • Working more than 35-40 hours per week (in some locations the maximum hours that can be worked is less than 35-40)

Another option for getting credit is through CISabroad and Plymouth State University’s capstone-like internship program. We are able to offer interns the opportunity to get credit in a number of fields at any of our internship locations.

You can receive 3-12 credits depending on the field and the number of hours worked. Numerous assignments are due throughout the program and there is a fee of $800. For more information, check out our website here.

To participate in the program you must have a 2.5 GPA, be done with your sophomore year of college/university, and be majoring or minoring in the field you want to get credit for.

If you would like to receive Plymouth State University credit for your internship, make sure to review the website and fill out the Application. Then, send it to your Program Coordinator.
